Three New Paintings

I've been busy painting...and have three new paintings to share. Two paintings I started several months ago, and I just got around to finishing them. (The abstract flowers, and The Ants and Jellybeans) Snow Princess was inspired by our lovely weather, as of late. I do love snow...when I don't have to drive in it. We had a hair raising experience the other day trying to get to the Airport...solid ice on the freeway...it was very scary. I hope everyone is staying safe out there!

Our youngest daughter is now married! It was an amazing day, so I thought that I would share a few pictures. The photographer, Ashley Dimeo Buchan, is a very talented young woman. We can't wait to see the rest of the photos!

I just noticed that I didn't post my last two kitty ornaments. They were fun to create and I am going to continue to explore soft sculpture this year.

2012! WOW! And, it's time to make my usual resolution...to create more and paint a lot more! Plus, I am looking forward to spending a lot more time with family and friends... The most important part of life; which does include our fur family!

Hi! I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving! Our Day started with a "Turkey Trot" 5K. My three daughters, my granddaughter and I all finished the race! It was a lot of fun and we decided that it will be an Annual Event! Next year we hope to get the men and dogs to join us. It's a family race...including dogs. We then had a great Thanksgiving dinner and a nap; so we could be with the rest of the crazy, Black Friday Shoppers. The 8 hours of shopping was a lot of fun, too!

I finally finished another ornament, a cat, and a painting inspired by Mr. Gatsby and his favorite toy, Martha Chicken. A Martha Stewart dog toy that Mr. Gatsby loves. I really enjoyed sewing, again, and painting on fabric...so, I think I'll be creating a few more Kitty Ornaments.

Christmas Ornament Time!

I watch Martha Stewart every morning. I find her show to be very inspirational and full of great ideas. Most of the time I don't actually get around to making the crafts, but the other day I was so enamored with Melissa Sweet's adorable Ornaments...I just had to make one of my own. I don't think it's quite finished, but pretty much. I plan to make a few more, too. They are so much fun! My granddaughter has one started, as well. I'll post a picture of her ornament when she's finished. Also, check out Melissa's book "Balloons Over Broadway".

Happy Friday, Everyone!!! I hope you all have a fantastic weekend! I have a lot of sewing, paper flower making and painting planned...we shall see what actually happens. I do know I want to spend some cozy time by the fire, looking out at the beautiful maple leaves! I love Autumn!!! I finally finished, Isabelle, and I have a new little cat painting...Holly. They will be in my Etsy shop by tomorrow. GusGus and I are heading out for our 2 mile walk in the forest now...before it rains.

Mr. Gatsby At Halloween...A little late

It's a little late, but I just have to share this picture of Mr. Gatsby on Halloween. He looked so cute in his Halloween sweater. Today I am going to start a painting of Mr. Gatsby with his favorite toy...Martha Chicken. Our daughter bought Mr. Gatsby one of Martha Stewart's dog toys at Pet Smart, and it's his favorite toy! It is pretty cute.

Cats, Herbs, New Poodle Painting and a WIP

Today, while I was taking a picture of my new Poodle Painting; I saw Rudy sniffing my herb basket, so I had to take a picture of him! Then walking back into the house, I noticed my WIP painting, and remembered that I haven't posted a picture of the progress, so I snapped a picture of it, too. I'm still deciding which way I want to go with it... bright color or more muted colors?

Playing with Matte Medium WIP

I was adding torn pages of an old book, French of course...since I'm still on my French kick. And, I decided to try and add more dimension with the paper. Took me forever to get all the matte medium off my hands (wear gloves if you try this), but I'm happy with the result. I still have work to do, I think. I kind of like the light, ghost-like quality, but I need to do more work on her eyes, for sure. Well, I promised my family pumpkin pie, so I'd better get busy. I'm using Martha Stewart's recipe. I'll post the recipe if it turns out well.

Christmas Cat Painting

The rain has stopped, finally, and it's a beautiful Autumn day here in Oregon. My little dog, GusGus, and I have had fun walking in the forest...looking at the gorgeous fall leaves! And, it's started me thinking... about Christmas...and how close it is! So, I've painted a "Christmas Cat". He may or may not be my Christmas Card this year. I have another Winter painting in mind...and then I'll choose. I really want a Winter landscape painting for above our fireplace, and I have a vision...it's just, Yet to be seen, if I can pull it off.

MAP PAINTING

Inspired by Jill Mayberg's colorful Bird paintings... I decided to paint a colorful Bird of my own. I used the canvas that I covered with pieces of torn map. I then sketched a very loose bird and whatever else came to mind, and started to paint. I like being able to see the pieces of map through the painting, and there's also a lot more texture...which I really like. It was a lot of fun, and I am looking forward to experimenting more with mixed media.

First Layers on Two WIP Paintings

I have the first layer finished on two of the paintings I'm working on; and I've pretty much completed the underpainting on, "Isabelle". I used an old map and Golden Matte Medium on a 6" X 12" canvas...not sure of what will come next on this painting. The "Isabelle" painting was started with a sketch directly on the canvas. I then added torn pages from an old French Book using the Matte Medium. The next step was the underpainting using Payne's Gray and Titanium white.

Girl's Day

Yesterday was a lot of fun! Two of my daughters and I had a Girl's Day Out. First...picking up a gorgeous wedding dress! Coffee and Portland Coffee Cake at Starbucks...yummy! Then on to The Corvallis Fall Festival, where I met two artists that create my kind of Art! I love their work. Jennifer Lommers (Her Artwork was on the tee-shirts this year), and Jill Mayberg... who has a painting I am so in love with. I'm still thinking about how gorgeous it would look in my living room! Then, if you haven't tried Cafe Yumm... I highly recommend it. We had dinner there and then listened to Calypso music all the way back to our car. Oh, and the French part of the day. I found a book written in French that I plan to use for a painting. If I can bring myself to tear it up. I love old books...and the thought of ripping pages out...is very difficult for me.

Time to watch our nephew play! He's playing in Seattle now... Go Seahawks!!!

A few coats of Varnish...and this colorful guy is heading to his new home. I really had a great time painting this piece. I love to paint on wood! It takes a bit longer, but I love the end result.

If the French is wrong...please excuse. I've decided that I need to get busy learning French. (The year that I took in High School...isn't really helping me.) We have cousins in Europe, and if we don't visit while they are there; I think we'd be crazy! So, more French words will be incorporated in my artwork...for a while.

Next projects... I've just started a mixed media piece using maps that my daughter was tossing in the recycling. Her trash and my treasure!!! And...I'm going to be creating three 6"X6" cat paintings to send to the Gallery in Bandon. I'm really excited, so I best get busy!

Mr. Gatsby My New Granddoggy

We have a new Granddoggy, Mr. Gatsby. He was adopted by our daughter in Pennsylvania, and soon after made a very long trip to Oregon by car. She said he is an excellent traveller. GusGus and Rory have made friends with Mr. Gatsby, finally, and are having fun playing with him. It's been good for them...they're getting back into shape!

Painting and Crocheting

Our lives have been very busy...having three family members in the hospital at once! They are all doing better now, and we are very grateful for that. We, also, have a wedding to plan! Our youngest daughter is getting married...and we found her dress on our first trip to the Bridal Boutique! It's gorgeous...and so is she! :-)

I have managed to complete a little more on the commission I've been working on...and I'm sharing a picture of the progress there. I plan to finish it this coming week. And, being inspired by our beautiful new granddaughter...I found my crochet hooks, ordered an adorable pattern for crocheted hats, and completed two while watching TV the other night. I'd forgotten how much fun it is to crochet. I'm thinking I may put a few hats in my Etsy Shop soon...after I complete the commission of course!

Hi,

There's been a lot going on in our family lately. We're waiting to meet our new Granddaughter... Which is very exciting!

And, we have family members that aren't feeling so well...so I've been working at my old job of nursing recently. (Prayers are always appreciated)

I have some exciting news concerning my Artwork. I've been asked to show my work at a Gallery in Bandon. Bandon is on the Oregon Coast, and they seem to have a thriving art community. I will post pictures as soon as I get a chance to visit the Gallery. I talked with the owner over the phone and I am so excited to meet her.

In the meantime I've added my first painting to my website store. I'm not sure how it is going to work, but I guess we'll find out! Setting things up, and not really being able to test them out means all you can do is keep your fingers crossed, I guess.

I have a Website!

I spent all day, yesterday, building a new Website ! (I still have a lot of work to do on the site...but it's a beginning!) I've been thinking about it for a couple of years, and finally got the push to get it done. I will post more about, "The Why", next week. Things are getting exciting, so stay tuned!

My husband and I had such an amazing, "Date", on Saturday. We went to the Salem Art Fair and Festival. The 61st annual! Wow, have we been missing out for a few years by not attending. The artists were so amazing. My husband usually takes a book when we go to an Art Fair, but not this time. He looked at each booth right along with me. We met so many wonderful people, and were mesmerized and inspired by unique and beautiful Art. A great dinner later that evening...just topped off a wonderful day. I'm still dreaming of one painting in particular, though. It was a piece by an amazing artist, Diane Culhane. Such a nice lady...she gave me a few tips I will be trying...and her work really touched my soul. I know I will own some of her Art in the future. Hopefully, that big, beautiful painting that I'm still dreaming about!

Paper Lanterns, Yellow Spiders and Cat Painting

I was painting with my Granddaughter the other day, and decided to do a study for a commission that I'm going to be painting. The original will be different, but I wanted to get a feel for some of the color I will be using.

Busy weekend with a Wedding happening, but I wanted to share a few things. I found these fun paper lanterns at the Dollar Store. They light up at night and are pretty cute...for only $1.00!

I, also, found...rather, it found me...A bright Yellow Spider while I was weeding in our woods. I like Spiders, so I thought it was pretty cool.

YAY! Summer has arrived in Oregon!!!

Our first flowers of the season... More to come later!

Hopefully, it's not too late for our gardens! Mine is not looking so good, yet, but there's still hope! The deer found my new little cherry tree to be very tasty! Apparently Riley was asleep on the job! Oh well... She needs her beauty sleep.

Well, today I am going to have breakfast on our deck, in the SUN, do a bit of weeding and then paint the rest of the day. I hope everyone has a wonderful day, as well!

JUNE! Such a busy month!

Once again, it's been about a month since I've blogged! We have been very busy with College graduations, wedding and baby showers, High school graduation, birthdays and more birthdays and Father's Day! It's been a lot of fun! We've managed to find some time for our new passion...Disc Golf, too! My grandson said playing disc golf, the other day, was one of the BEST times EVER! He's 8 and he outplayed most of us! So did his 9 year old sister! It was great!

Here's a picture of an evening celebration. We belong to a group known as, 'The Friday Night Club'. Every Friday night we meet for dinner, and then play cards or games. I guess our kids noticed that we have a lot of fun.... they are now joining us!

I'm making time to paint today. Hopefully, I will have something to share very soon!

New Painting

I'm almost finished with my paintings...fortunately, since the show is tomorrow night. This is the last one...

I bought Steven Tyler's book, "Does The Noise In My Head Bother You?", and he has a quote on one of the first pages that I love. "If you're a hammer, everything looks like a nail. If you're a singer, everything looks like a song." I would like to add to that... "If you're an Artist, everything looks like a painting." I think I am going to enjoy his book, very much. He's a very creative guy. I'll let you know.

Life has been busy, as usual! I have been painting... Getting ready for the Artists' Reception; which I just learned I have to speak at. UGH! I am not a fan of speaking in public. It is easier talking about something you love...as I love painting. Hopefully, it won't be too painful. I've, also, added new items to my Cafepress store...in the whimsical cats section. I love their new iPhone covers. It's fun adding personality to items you use everyday.

Visual Inspired Shopping

My Sister-In-Law and I went shopping yesterday and we had a great time. Even though I believe she believes, that I shop a little strangely. I just can't help myself! I've been known to buy music, wine and other treasures that move me...not because I like the music or the wine...I've usually never sampled them, but because of their visual appeal. My husband, her brother, is used to me and stopped wondering why I bought a CD, I've never heard, because the artwork on the cover is amazing. And, really, it doesn't have to be something purchased in a store. To me it's surrounding yourself with beauty and things that make you smile. When you're happy...you will probably pass that feeling on to others, or at least amuse them.

Yesterday I turned the corner and saw the most beautiful wine bottle I've ever seen; found a pretty little container for our coffee and who could resist fresh Basil!

I posted three, 'Work In Progress', paintings a while ago. They are paintings inspired by my imaginary flower doodles. I've finally finished one... I call it, "FIRST DATE". She's all dressed up...waiting for her handsome guy to arrive. This painting is going in my Etsy shop tonight.

I haven't had a lot of new paintings to share lately, because I've been busy painting for an Artists' Reception and show... I think there will be 5 or 6 local Artists. It sounds like a lot of fun, and I will be sure to post pictures.

I have one Easter decoration on display this year...it's my favorite. A little bunny made of Spun Cotton that I bought on Etsy. I saw the artist, Crystal, on the Martha Stewart show; fell in love with her creations, and had to have this bunny. Sudoku = Meditation=Art Journal

I've enjoyed Sudoku for a while now. I call it my meditation. So when I feel stressed...I grab my little book, the time flies by, I feel relaxed and I usually don't remember what I was stressed about after several puzzles. Very similar to creating Art, so I guess that is how my Sudoku books gradually became my Art journals. I started, rather unconsciously, using the finished pages of my sudoku books to experiment with ideas for art projects. It's fun and seems to help me with that dreaded artists' block.

Rudy And The Scratching Box

Hi,

I have been very busy, and have a lot to post about, but I've decided to make one post at a time. Rudy and his new scratching box are first! He was so excited about this new box, loaded with catnip! He scratched it, licked it and laid by it; until, I'm guessing, the catnip was gone. He's a very funny guy!

We have a glass table in our kitchen, and I couldn't resist taking pictures of Rudy laying in the sun, under the table. I then played with one of the pictures on my computer, and I really like the way it turned out. I'm going to play around with it at cafepress next...and see what happens.

Well, it's early, on a Saturday night, but I'm thinking bed and my Sudoku puzzles sound pretty good. Tomorrow I think I'll post about my obsession with Sudoku, and how it's turned into one of my all time favorite Art projects and inspirations.

The daffodils are here! Everywhere we go there are daffodils, and it's gorgeous!

Was It The Pineapple?

For about a month or so I was having a lot of lower back pain. It was almost impossible to sit or put my socks on. So when my sister asked me to go to lunch; I was happy to see her, but knew that sitting for any amount of time was going to be miserable. At first it was miserable, but we ended up sitting and talking for about 3 hours, and when we got up to leave...my back was feeling so much better. The next morning I cut a fresh pineapple for breakfast and then went about cleaning and working at the computer. At some point I realized that my back wasn't hurting...and concluded that the only thing I had done differently was eat fresh pineapple at lunch the day before and that morning. So online I went and sure enough there's a lot of information about pineapple being used as an anti-inflammatory. The main enzyme in pineapple, Bromelain, is used for pain and inflammation. So, I don't know for sure, but I feel that eating fresh pineapple really did the trick for me! It's worth a try, if you can eat pineapple. My sister-in-law would end up in the ER...she's allergic. Anyway, I thought that I should share my story...just in case this yummy fruit could be the answer for someone else.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

I am, as are many other people in the US, part Irish. I've decided to celebrate by bringing out the few green dishes that I own and fixing an Irish dinner for my hubby tonight. Maybe even with the traditional Green beer. We'll see... I think Irish coffee sounds better.

My Great Grandmother gave me the tea cup with the Lily of the Valley on my 21st birthday. I love it and plan to sip her favorite green tea and think of her today, too.

I believe the biscuit jar is English, but it's green and reminds me of Spring. I saw it in an antique store just after we were married...and had to have it. I wish I knew the artist that hand painted it...they did an amazing job.

New Cat Painting Jellybean

Spring has been roaring in like a lion! High winds, power loss and torrential rains that even Oregonians are not used to! It's always a time of unpredictable weather, though, and we are blessed with our emerald green countrysides; dotted with glorious color and little white puffs of lamb cuteness.

I love this time of year. After the long gray days it's almost like walking into the land of Oz. And it's inspired my new little painting, "Jellybean". I used a little different palette, after going a bit crazy ordering new paint, and I found I really like these new colors...that is a relief...and I can't wait to experiment further!

COLOR

When you love color; it may seem odd to some, but your heart can melt at the sight of a beautiful, pure pigment. You can find yourself standing in front of painting, entranced. Color affects us, and I find myself excited to begin a real color exploration.

One of my favorite paint colors, for many years now, is Quinacridone Burnt Orange. I love using it to shade areas of red and burnt sienna, mostly. And now that I have had time to experiment with other colors; I have found that using Quinacridone Magenta and Quinacridone red are just as exciting. My new abstract cat painting, Flor, was created using all three of these Quinacridone colors. It's hard to photograph red...since it tends to distort color...but here she is...one colorful Flower.

We Have Snow!!!

My little black cat, Chouette, is finished. Hopefully my French is correct...and her name translated is Posh. I used a canvas that measures 18 " X 6" X 1 1/2" and only acrylic paint, this time. I was so tempted to go wild with her, but decided to stop and let Chouette be more refined. Now I need to go paint a wild cat! After I clean my floors...

Rudy's... In The Bag

I can't believe it's Friday! It was a very busy week for us; which makes time go faster. A gentleman contacted us, and he wants to lease our property for his concession stand/mobile unit. We hadn't even thought about doing this, but it's going to work out great! I can't wait to try his yummy kettle corn! I'm sure our old customers will be very happy, too! Hopefully, he will be able to make my mom's blended Chubby Bunny for her!!! :-)

I found a couple of old paintings that I'd never finished...and I finished them. And, now I am working on a few new ideas. It feels so good to be getting back into creating. I feel pretty rusty, but I am so enjoying myself!!!

Birthdays Are Fun

Yesterday was my birthday, and it was a great day! I received a lot of "Happy Birthday" messages and phone calls. It's always fun to hear from friends and family! Then we had a fantastic lunch at Ruby Tuesdays! Crab cakes...so yummy! Went to see True Grit; which we really liked. Shopped a bit at Michaels; one of my favorite places, and Borders...another favorite place to spend hours browsing. It was a very Happy Birthday, indeed.

Of course, I had to take a few pictures of the gorgeous Tulips my daughter, Ali, gave to me. They were glowing in the sunlight this morning...so pretty!

And, now I am off to the DMV to renew my drivers license...the downside of turning another year older. Hopefully I won't be there ALL day; I really want to paint!!!

Mom's Recipe for Beef Sandwiches

This recipe is for hot beef sandwiches, and it is THE BEST!!! My Mom, actually, got the recipe from a dear friend, who is no longer with us. The ladies were at Jane's house playing Bridge, and they could smell this wonderful beef cooking the whole time they were there. So, of course, they all had to have the recipe. Mom is still playing in two Bridge clubs. They say it's hard to find a "Fill-in" because no one plays Bridge around here anymore. The ladies in her clubs are all in their 80s and 90s, except Mom, who is still in her 70s. I guess I should learn to play.

1 Beef chuck roast (4 pounds)
1 cup ketchup
1 cup barbecue sauce
4 cups chopped celery
2 cups water
1 cup chopped onion
2 Tbls vinegar
2 Tbls brown sugar
2 Tbls Worcestershire sauce
1 tsp chili powder
1tsp garlic powder
1 tsp salt
rolls or sandwich buns

Place beef in dutch oven. Combine all remaining ingredients except rolls, of course. Pour over beef. Cover and bake at 350 for 5 hours, turning beef occasionally. Shred beef with a fork. Serve on the rolls or buns.

My Dad is 80 today!

Our family is getting together today to celebrate our Dad's 80th birthday! It will be a lot of fun, and thanks to my Mom; there will be a ton of great food!!! Our mother is a wonderful cook. Mom, also, bought Dad a Wii, a suggestion from Dana and I. We think he will love the golf game; since he's a golf addict, and the weather doesn't always cooperate. Something tells me everyone will enjoy the game, however...

Calico Kitty

This week went so fast! I had quite a bit of Espresso business to take care of, so I didn't get to paint until today. I decided that I should finish a painting that I started, probably a year ago. Sort of a Folk Art, Calico Cat, sitting in front of white blossoms. I think I need to come up with a Valentine painting next. I do love Valentine's Day!!!

I was very surprised, when I went to my Cafepress store, to see that they have iPhone and iPad covers that you can dress-up with a picture or artwork. I had a lot of fun adding images to several cases. Now I need to decide which one I want. I need a new case for my iPhone. This will be fun! I've been away too long; there's so much to catch up on. Sure is fun, though!!!

We Sold The Espresso Shop!!!

Yay! Finally, we sold the Espresso Shop! I am so excited! No more leaving for work in the dark and getting home in the dark! It was sad telling some of my favorite customers good-bye; I will miss them, but hopefully we will see each other around town.

So, I am now a full-time Artist, once again. WOW, I just can't believe it finally happened! After catching up on a bit of sleep first; I will be painting non-stop!

Our Mister Rudy just loves the Christmas Tree! He sits on the back of the chair, next to the tree, and looks at...I'm not sure what....for long periods of time. He seems to be having a wonderful Christmas. The rest of our fur family seems pretty happy too...but they are being camera shy.

I think I completed two pages of a journal...a long time ago. Then Suzi mentioned something about a journal...travelling around and ending up in a museum. So I checked it out, paid the money and I've been racing to get it finished now before the deadline, Jan 15, 2011. At first I was sorry that I had taken it on, but now I believe it's been one of the best things I've taken on. I know it's not my best work...I'm probably not going to finish the entire journal, the way I would like to, but I've learned so much and it's becoming one of my passions. It's such a great way to grow, experiment and learn about yourself. Not to mention becoming addicted, in a great way, to things like ink. I didn't know how much fun drawing in pen and ink could be. I am so looking forward to creating journals from now on!

The plan is for this post to be my entrance back into the world of blogging. I have missed blogging and I've missed reading your blogs...most of all. Life has been way too busy and I am at the point where I need to start saying NO, to the not so important things, and YES to the things I am passionate about. I'm a firm believer that we need to direct our lives, not let our lives direct us...but what have I been doing? Whatever life, and everyone else, has wanted me to. Time to get back on track.

I will share part of the journal that I've been working on tomorrow, but tonight I want to share a picture of two cutie pies enjoying our Christmas Tree. Rudy Farcus in the chair and GusGus under the tree. They were taking turns with Oppea and Rory. It's hard to catch them all together.

Stormy Sunday

It's very stormy here in Oregon today... Gus and I were going to go for a walk in the forest, but fortunately we were slow getting about. It started hailing, like I've never seen before...so much wind and then the lightning and thunder started! Five out of Six of our pets got very nervous. Not Rudy...here is a picture of him...as calm as can be.

Something else I've been thinking about today...Delicata Squash. I tried this squash last year for the first time and fell in love! It really is one of my favorite things to eat. I roast it in the oven after drizzling olive oil over it and adding coarse sea salt, pepper and fresh rosemary. It's the best! And, I found a new little squash to try this year...A sweet Dumpling Squash. Isn't it cute! I can't wait to try it!

A Portrait of Rudy

Happy Sunday! I hope it's as beautiful where you are...as it is here.

I finished a small portrait of our cat, Rudy, the other day. Rudy is the white cat that adopted us at the espresso shop...and now lives with us. He is such a colorful guy...so I decided to paint him in brilliant color.

I used water color pencils and acrylic paints, on canvas, for this piece. I think I've found a new love, too. I am so enjoying the water color pencils on canvas! Who knew it would be so much fun. That reminds me...I need to order more colors...better do that now.

I'll be back soon with another painting I'm working on.

Ready for Halloween!

Autumn is probably my favorite time of year. I love pretty much everything about it...from the gorgeous falling leaves, pumpkins, mums, honey crisp apples (the best apple by a mile), excited children and the clear blue skies. Such a homey, comfy time of year.

The espresso shop is decorated and selling a ton of Pumpkin Pie Spiced Chai...it's so good! Egg Nog Lattes are next! :-)

Hi !

It's been a while, again, but in about a month I plan to be painting full time again!!! I am so excited!

I have a new painting, "Wild Cat", and a framed print to share tonight and I'll have more in a day or two.

Time to watch Survivor.... It's been fun watching this year. My sister-in-law put the names of the TV Survivors in a hat and 20 of us picked a name. Makes it more personal and fun! Of course there will be a party when we find out Who the winner is. Yes...there is a prize! I'm Brenda and I'm still in! :-)

Yes, I am still around! There's no way anyone has time to read everything that I've been up to...we've been kind of busy...so I'll just show you the only painting I've created in months...and a picture of my gluten free pumpkin muffins. I'm attempting to eat gluten-free. I do feel better, but I've gained a pound, unlike everyone else I know that lost weight eating this way. I don't understand? Could be that I love these pumpkin muffins and potatoes and corn.

My Day Off

Today was a gorgeous day, and it was my day off! A day to, finally, exercise with Jillian. If you've never tried one of her DVDs, I highly recommend them. Then it was off to Grandpa's Garden. A beautiful little, family owned farm, with the best fruits and veggies around. They are now making jams and syrups, too, so I had to buy a few to try, and they are wonderful!

I had in mind that I would paint when I got home, but first GusGus and I had to have lunch on the deck, and give Oppea a little attention, too.

We have a very small garden on our deck this year. Some herbs and cherry tomatoes. GusGus loves to lay by the tomato plants. The cats lay by the catnip plant on the other side of the deck. They really seem to enjoy it.

I did paint for the rest of the afternoon... I had a GREAT day off!!!

The Getaway...

Saturday after work my husband and I headed out, for a short adventure, over one of Oregon's most beautiful passes, to visit his sister in Bend. Believe me, traveling through this most amazingly, gorgeous part of the world... Oh, you just really need to experience it. It's amazing. Here are a few pictures that I snapped coming home, trying to capture a bit of the magic.

There's a section of the forest that was infested with a beetle, but they weren't allowed to spray, which meant the trees died...and then...a forest fire. These next pictures show a dead forest in the background and the new growth. It's very hauntingly beautiful.

And, then there is Bend... A beautiful city, surrounded by snow capped mountains. The Three Sisters being the most famous.

We didn't float down the river this time, but we have joined in the fun before, and will again. It's a gorgeous setting.

Lots of things to do, including a brick firepit, outdoor dining, concerts and lots of charming little shops.

The desert is beautiful, too. There were lots of flowers...all colors. These are our favorite.

Hopefully, there will be more short Getaways this summer. We had such a great time!!!

Busy...Busy...Busy

Just when you think life can't get any busier! It does! It's been fun, but I am ready for a quiet, slow, creative moment. Maybe tomorrow... I am closing the coffee shop on Sundays and Mondays through the summer. The plan is to paint on those days. :-) Painting with my granddaughter is in the plans, too! She's amazing!

I did finish, "Oscar And Izzy", a commission that I have been working on. Very sweet cats, and my first abstract-ish, commissioned, pet piece. It was so much fun, and definitely a style I feel I need to explore more.

On a different note... Has anyone been in an airport lately? Oh, My! We took our daughter to an airport two hours away...(so we were up at 2 am)...and I didn't know that there were that many security guards in the world! They scan each and every drivers license now, too. It was very interesting, and felt...strange. I think it would make a great surreal painting. I may have to give Surrealism a try.

Hello! I can't believe it's been over a month since my last post! Life is very busy, too busy!!! I've really missed reading blogs and posting. I've, actually, tried to read a bit and post, but I've been so tired...things just don't come out right, so I go to bed. I've been running the Espresso shop by myself, so that's pretty much all I've been up to. I have been able to paint a bit at the shop, and finished this little guy, that I named Sherman, after a crazy cat that I owned 30 years ago. He was fun to work on. I painted him on wood, using acrylics, watercolor pencils and I used my new favorite stamp on the background and around the edge. I'm, also, working on a commission, which I will share after I give the owner the first peek.

Well, I guess I had better get to bed, so I can get back to making Lattes! :-) My favorite is a coconut latte, at the moment....It's so good! I will be back....

First 3/4 face...In a very long time

I have avoided the 3/4 face for most of my life, so when I saw Suzi Blu's 3/4 face class, I decided it sounded like fun, and why not give it a try. Well, I am so glad that I decided to make the time. Suzi is a great teacher and it's been fun learning a new technique, with very different materials. Wow, there are a lot of new products out there! So, while I have been waiting for my back-ordered wooden canvases, I did a little painting, and started to experiment with some of the new, to me, paints and inks. I think, when I really get going, I am going to love this new journey!

Blue Calico and My To Do List

I've set a few goals for myself lately, because I seem to be so busy...I find myself standing, wondering what to do next. Do you ever do that? I can be so scattered. So it came to me...make a list for each day, which MUST include exercise, and I HAVE to do everything on that list. It's working pretty well!

Here's my new little colorful cat. I love the combination of dioxazine purple, light blue violet and gold ochre...throw in Mars yellow, quinacridone burnt orange and a touch or burnt sienna, finish off with golden's iridescent bright gold (which I absolutely love). One of my favorites. I LOVE color!!!

Hi! I'm still around...Just very, very busy. Business at the Espresso Shop has picked up a lot, so more of my time is spent there. I signed up for a couple of art classes, to learn new techniques, and they are amazing. I love Jane's 'prints on wood' class, and I am very taken with 'Suzi Blu's Piety and Passion' class. Great new techniques that I can't wait to start. A lot of new supplies, for me, so I've been having quite a time finding everything, but I think I'm set now. I don't want to know how much I spent...it'll be worth it.

What have I been waiting for?

My friend, Lisa, decided to take her treasured dishes out of her china cabinet and enjoy them. I thought she had a great idea, why not enjoy them! That was probably two years ago... finally, today I decided that I should start enjoying my collection too. So I baked some raspberry scones, which turned out so yummy, placed them on a pink depression glass platter, and poured my coffee into a fun, pink, glass cup, as well. Kind of makes you feel like a princess at a tea party. Having three daughters, we had lots of tea parties over the years. I think it's time we started having them again!

Two New Colorful Cats

I have two new and very different cat paintings to share. The little "Soft Kitty" painting was inspired by the quirky little song..."Soft Kitty"...which Penny sings to Sheldon in The Big Bang...one of our favorite TV shows. If you haven't seen it...it's a must watch! So funny!

The next painting is my newest Color Cat. A true stress reliever for me...just picking up a canvas, putting paint on my palate, letting my mind go blank (The hard part)...voila...a cat appears. It's not always a good cat...I have another cat I'm now trying to save. But it's so relaxing.........

I've been extra busy with the Espresso Shop, lately, so I've been away longer than I've wanted to be. I want everyone to know...that I really appreciate your posts and your wonderful comments! I, also, enjoy your blogs, so very much!!! I can't wait to catch up!

When I'm shopping, I always have to check out the flowers...first! I posted the pretty lime green flowers that I had in my kitchen window, a while ago. Well, here are the flowers, white with that lovely lime green in the center, that are making me smile while I do the dishes now. How can you not feel wonderful when you have pretty flowers all around you!

I love gardening, and plan to do a lot of it this spring and summer. There's nothing better than growing your own flowers, vegetables and herbs. I Can't Wait!

Mr Moose

I started out with a black canvas for Mr Moose. Something a little different for me and it was fun. I found that it was more difficult to bring the color out, of course, so Mr Moose looks better under a light. I love experimenting with color and can't wait to try the dozens/hundreds of ideas I have going around in my head. Need more hours in the day!!! It would, also, help if I weren't so scattered. I'm one of those. I head to the table to paint, see the cat, stop to talk to it, hear the dryer go off...go down stairs, run across GusGus, play with him a bit...and it's time to get to the shop! Oh well...that's where I usually paint.

A Glimpse of Spring

Birthday Drawing

The first time I saw another blogger do a drawing, I thought..."What a fun, great idea!" I want to do that! Well, today is my Birthday and I'm thinking it would be a good day to finally have a drawing. The drawing will be for one of my matte prints of the Fox. Oppea's New Home

Our sweet little Oppea decided that she needed her own place. Rudy took the bed under the table with the long tablecloth, Rory has the comfy kennel and GusGus likes the bed under the desk...all Oppea had was a dining room chair...until now. New FOX print

Hi! Happy Friday!!!
I am really excited about the matte Legion Entrada Rag 290 paper that I discovered. It's been at the printers, I just never tried it, but I am so happy that I finally did! It looks like watercolor paper and is archival, as well as their ink, to 150 years! So, I have printed my "Fox" using this paper, and I'm very happy with the results. I, also, had a glossy "Fox" 8" X 8" print made, and will be adding it to my Etsy shop by tomorrow.

Well, I'm off the the Espresso shop, and then to a dance concert, which our youngest is dancing in, tonight. It's a good Friday! I hope everyone has a great weekend!

Magnetic FOX calendar for 2010

I find the little magnetic calendars very useful, so I decided to have a few printed with a couple of my paintings on them. I especially like the way the Fox turned out, so thought I would share it.

I finally found a paper for my prints that I really love! It looks and feels like watercolor paper, and I'm very excited about it. So I will be offering some new prints on this paper very soon.

Almost Finished Angel...Rose

Weekend At The Oregon Coast

When our girls were young we spent many weekends/weeks camping at the Oregon Coast with family and friends. About 10 years ago we sold the camp trailer and started renting beach homes. I thought that I would share a bit of our trip from last weekend with you. The pictures show one of our favorite restaurants at Nye Beach, which is becoming THE place to live and shop. It's such a charming little community. I've, also, taken a few pictures of one of the homes, we have rented many times, which overlooks the Ocean. Hmmmm... I think I've just decided that this is the year I will spend one or two weekends painting at the beach. It's so inspiring and relaxing.

It's late, but I decided to post my two new paintings. I have to be at the Espresso shop before the sun rises on Tuesdays and Thursdays now, so I won't be at my computer tomorrow until late...again!

SAM A Colorful Cat

A friend noticed my 'Colorful Cat' Print, in my Etsy shop, at the same time I was wondering what I should paint next. I am so happy that she inspired me...because I am having a great time painting these very colorful kitty cats!

My family is waiting on me...to watch Modern Family... but I had to share my two new paintings first. Two paintings inspired by several things that I love... Valentine's Day, my cat Rudy, abstract art, hearts and just Cats in general.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

WOW! I REALLY can't believe it's going to be 2010 in a few hours! Time is going... so fast. So, my goal for the coming year is... to enjoy every, single minute! To treat this life I've been given...with respect... Meaning, healthy choices in all areas, and making More time with Family and Friends. Being 'so very busy' is a bad excuse to neglect living a fun, creative and wonderful life. My Motto... "Live Life Creatively"and "SMILE" :-)

Someone got Creative with GusGus. Here are a few cute pictures of him. We've been too busy to get to the groomer, so my husband trimmed his bangs, and Jilly gave him a ponytail. He seems to like it.

Snow Angel

I have a new painting to share. I'm not sure why, maybe because it's so cold here, but she reminds me of a snow angel. I'm working on a little 2" X 2" that should be finished today...a tiny fox. Well, I'm off to the Espresso shop... I hope everyone has a great day!

My Wish for you... A fun filled Christmas, over-flowing with Love!

Our little Oppea loves the Christmas Tree...she's our gift under the tree. Rudy is very curious about all of the Merriment, and the dogs think we have given them a place to scratch their backs.
